Tucson -- often referred to as Old Pueblo -- boasts shopping aplenty, steeped in both Old West culture and new-fangled whimsy. Museum-quality tribal textiles and jewelry, Mexican folk crafts, and cowboy stuff abound. Downtown Tucson, as the historic and cultural heart of the city, brims with one-of-a-kinds. Got All Your Marbles, on Congress Street, stocks handmade items of sterling silver and bronze. Toxic Ranch Records, on Sixth Street, deals in underground rock paraphernalia and occasionally hosts groups like Able Was I, Barely Bipedal, Cortex Bomb, and Beer Gut. Seventh Street's Ordinary Bike Shop deals in used and new, resale and repair for cool cruisers and serious mountain models. The 4th Avenue district near the University of Arizona, anchored by Creative Ventures Craft Mall, is known for pre-owned clothing shops and artsy bargains. La Hormiga Blanca, on Fourth, specializes in Mexican imports, while Native Seed Search, also on Fourth, is dedicated to the preservation of heirloom seeds, and sales of books, posters, etc.
Open plazas include St. Philip's Plaza, at River Road and Campbell Avenue; Plaza Palomino, at Swan and Fort Lowell roads; and Casas Adobes Plaza, at Oracle and Ina roads. La Encantada, at Skyline Drive and Campbell, features Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, and Muttropolis Dog and Cat Boutique. Billing itself as high energy, urban, and hip, Main Gate Square features retailers, more than 20 restaurants, a monthly farmers market, and occasional concerts. Foothills Mall, on La Cholla Boulevard, has some 80 outlet stores including Off 5th - Saks Fifth Avenue, a half-dozen restaurants, food court, and a 15-screen Cineplex. Park Place, with a streetscape design on Broadway Boulevard, has Dillard's, Macy's, and more than 120 shops, restaurants, food court, and a movie theater. Tucson Mall, the largest around, is anchored by Dillard's, JCPenney, Macy's, Mervyn's, Sears, and has some 200 specialty shops. For prescriptions and such, 47 Walgreens are in Greater Tucson, 10 of them open 24 hours.
